The Company

Sunstex was incorporated in 1986 and has over 25 years valuable trade links with American and European buyers. The company has 5,799 hectare Timber Utilization Contract (TUC) of forest and harvests about 12,000 m3 logs annually. It exports 2 x 20’ containers of kiln dried lumber, mainly Mahogany and tropical red hardwoods. Sunstex has sawmilling and moulding capabilities and produces lumber and mouldings. It has 90 employees.


Susntex exports kiln dried lumber of the following species: Mahogany (Khaya ssp.), Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum), Cedrela (Cedrela odorata), Odum/Iroko (Milicia excelsa), Walnut (Lovoa trichilioides), Asanfena (Aningeria spp.). It is promoting lesser used species such as Celtis (Celtis spp.), Denya (Cylicodiscus gabunensis), Danta (Nesogordonia papaverifera), and Ofram (Terminalia superba).


Sunstex is undergoing FSC Group Certification. In 2009, Smartwood, an independent third party certification body (auditor) carried out a pre-assessment of Sunstex’s operations against the FSC standards.  The company with the assistance from KWC has developed an action plan which it is implementing in order to rectify the gaps identified during the pre-assessment and prepare for FSC Controlled Wood and Chain of Custody Certification.
